Mas de Mata-redona

We didn’t get around to posting on the blog yesterday so we will take care of that today.  There was low cloud yesterday, so it was rather pointless to climb up a mountain to see nothing.  Therefore, we chose a low mountain, the Montsia, that is closer to the Mediterranean.

It really wasn’t the greatest walk, but it was a good choice given the day.  We heard the bells clattering on some kind of grazing livestock in the low growing Mediterranean vegetation.  We then encountered a large herd of goats, they chomp and thrash around quite loudly.  Then their herdsman started talking to us, of course we understood nothing of what he said.  He came onto the trail with his four dogs.

Continuing on, we ended up at the Mas de Mata-redona, a ruined farm. The paths in the area are well trodden and have likely been in use for many years as there is evidence of terraced fields and old stone walls.

Tortosa isn’t the most noteworthy town but it does have a Parador high up the hill with a good view to the Ebro river.  The great thing about our accommodation is that it is outside the town in a field and very quiet.
