Signs of Spring

A pair of bluebirds come back every year to an old birdhouse attached to a leaning fence post alongside the road where we take our morning walk.

A male Ruffed Grouse has been living near us for many years.  Their territory is fairly small and the male does not leave his territory.  We often hear and see him beating his wings rapidly to attract a female.  The female travels to the male's territory.  The female is pictured above, the male is below, he is displaying for the female.  We see the male Ruffed Grouse throughout the year, but mostly in the spring.

Scilla, this is our earliest spring flower.
